I recently had the opportunity to attend the second installment of New York Fashion Week:Men, a couple of weeks ago for the Fall/Winter season. I have to say I was one of my greatest adventures thus far. Coming from a small country in the Caribbean there aren’t many opportunities for men’s wear bloggers.
For my first time attending fashion week, I have to say it’s a lot of work and running around from show to show. Day 1 started off pretty great, with Loris Diran and SuitSupply (my all time favorite high fashion retail brand).
Loris Diran debuted his Fall/Winter collection entitled Blurred Vision. He (Diran) goes on to explain his vision and inspiration for the collection. Stating that the collection ” explores the relevance of athletic themes as they intermix within the ready-to-wear arena, pairing his offerings with updated tailored staples and sprinkling the whole collection with distinctly military details cut from unlikely textiles such as graphic wool double knits, optical jacquards, neoprene, technical performance nylon and fantasy tweed. Blurred lines and broken patterns reflect a sense of vague memories and distant dreams.” Diran marches on with his ‘New Look’: Uber soft, pre-washed suiting sans padding and stiff interfacing, yet maintaining a slim defined silhouette. With a distinct juxtaposition of sportswear to sartorial traditionalism, the collection pairs pieces atypically to create a new sensibility.
For my first show, it was truly a eye opener to see first hand the intricate details designers go through to put out a collection each season. The in depth research, color evaluation, choosing the right fabrics etc… I tip my hat to you designers.
As the show concluded, in true industry style I hurried over to Soho to attend the SuitSupply Presentation. I have to say I fell in love with their Fall/Winter presentation.
One of my goals as a blogger was to attend a Suitsupply Presentation, and I am truly grateful that I got the opportunity to attend and mingle with some of the leading influencers In the industry. From this presentation, I have a strong feeling we are sure to these styles and outfits gracing the streets and at the gallor events during the Fall/Winter season.
Stay Tuned for the Recap of Day 2….
